BitWise ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website at learnbitwise.com and the BitWise learning platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our platform.
By accessing or using BitWise, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the terms of this policy, please do not use the platform.
We collect the following types of information:
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect your email address, username, and password (stored securely via Supabase Authentication). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from Google.
Payment Information
If you subscribe to BitWise Pro, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not store your credit card number, CVV, or full payment details on our servers. Stripe handles all payment data in accordance with PCI-DSS standards. We store only your Stripe customer ID and subscription status.
Learning Data
We collect data related to your use of the platform, including: code submissions, lesson progress, completed steps, XP earned, diagnostic test results, assessment scores, and your preferred programming language. This data is used to personalize your learning experience.
AI Grading Data
If you are a Pro subscriber, your project code submissions are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for AI-powered grading. We store the code you submit, the AI feedback received, and your score. Anthropic processes this data in accordance with their own privacy policy.
Automatically Collected Information
When you visit our platform, we may automatically collect certain information including your IP address, browser type, device information, and pages visited. We use this information to analyze trends, administer the site, and improve the user experience.
We use the information we collect to:
Provide and maintain the BitWise platform; create and manage your account; process payments and manage subscriptions; personalize your learning path based on your skill level; grade your code submissions and provide feedback; track your progress and award XP; communicate with you about your account, including password resets and service updates; improve our platform and develop new features; and comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information with the following third parties solely to provide our services:
Supabase — authentication and database hosting. Stripe — payment processing for Pro subscriptions. Anthropic — AI-powered code grading (Pro feature, code submissions only). Vercel — website hosting and deployment. Piston — code execution engine for running student code.
We may also disclose your information if required by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
We retain your account data and learning progress for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law. Anonymized or aggregated data may be retained indefinitely for analytics purposes.
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including: encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), secure password hashing via Supabase Auth, Row Level Security (RLS) policies on our database to ensure users can only access their own data, and PCI-compliant payment processing through Stripe.
However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
Access the personal data we hold about you; request correction of inaccurate data; request deletion of your data; object to or restrict processing of your data; request portability of your data; and withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
